Michelle Harden, President

Ms. Harden has worked in the information technology industry for more than 30 years. Prior to founding Compelling Technologies, she was Product Manager for Advanced Interactive Systems™, supporting the launch of the F.I.R.E.S. virtual reality training product.

Ms. Harden has worked in the information technology industry for more than 30 years. Prior to founding Compelling Technologies, she was Product Manager for Advanced Interactive Systems™, supporting the launch of the F.I.R.E.S. virtual reality training product. In 1996 Ms. Harden co-founded Interact, the Pacific Northwest’s leading Internet fulfillment and customer care company. Interact served Microsoft®, RealNetworks®, Cranium®, Anne Geddes, Gear.com, Visio, Warner Brothers™, Microvision™, Medtronic and other major clients as it grew to 175 employees; Ms. Harden sold her interest in Interact in 2004. Earlier she worked in sales business development roles for IBM®, Boeing Computer Services, Prism, XactLabs, and Normandy Partners. Her consulting firm, Transitions2, provides business process improvements to Northwest companies.

Ms. Harden holds a B.A. in Public Administration from Western Washington University with minors in Business and Psychology.

Rob Carnahan, Chairman and Senior VP, Strategic Alliances

Mr. Carnahan is a nationally known fire safety professional with a long record of service in both career and volunteer roles. He is a former Fire Chief of Oregon’s Clackamas County Fire District 54 and Assistant Fire Chief of Clackamas Fire District No.1, a consolidated fire and EMS district.

Mr. Carnahan is a designated CFO and his former department was a CFAI accredited agency. He is the former President of the National Society of Executive Fire Officers and participated in the 2005 NFFFF Research Agenda Symposium. Mr. Carnahan has been certified as a nationally registered EMT-P, Firefighter, Company Officer, Fire Marshal, Assistant Fire Chief, and Chief of the Department. He was chairperson of Oregon’s Board on Public Safety Standards and Training, overseeing all state public safety agencies, and has also served as an elected Director for a Fire District.

Mr. Carnahan retired from the public sector in 2001 but remains active in fire service through Compelling Technologies, as well as teaching and consulting engagements. He was a Fire Program Specialist for the Department of Homeland Security in the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and consulted with Advanced Interactive Systems to deliver the F.I.R.E.S. virtual reality training product.

Mr. Carnahan is a frequent contributor to conferences and fire service publications and has served as an adjunct professor at Western Oregon State University instructing fire administration classes. He has a B.S. from Portland State University and graduated from the National Fire Academy’s EFOP Program.

Reuven Carlyle, Founding Partner

Mr. Carlyle is a technology and public policy veteran with an emphasis on partnerships between the private and public sector. He has held a variety of business development and public policy positions at AT&T™ Wireless Services/McCaw Cellular Communications, Xypoint®, and other technology firms. He helped Xypoint become the nation’s largest provider of emergency wireless 911 services, serving Verizon™, Cingular, and other major wireless carriers.

Mr. Carlyle serves on the board of directors of AirSage™, an Atlanta-based wireless software company providing real-time nationwide traffic data. Previously he was chairman of the board of Twisted Pair Solutions, a premier provider of IP-based radio interoperability software to military and public safety agencies worldwide. Washington Governor Chris Gregoire appointed Mr. Carlyle to the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, the $1.2 billion agency overseeing Washington’s 34 two-year colleges serving 460,000 students. He has worked as a gubernatorial press secretary, speechwriter and public police specialist.

Mr. Carlyle has a M.P.A. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a B.A. in Communications from the University of Massachusetts.

Nancy Lanning, Senior VP, Technology

Ms. Lanning is a 25-year software industry veteran specializing in software development management in startup companies or divisions. She was Vice President of Development at Advanced Interactive Systems™, where she led development of the F.I.R.E.S. virtual reality training product along with multiple additional initiatives for emergency responders, Homeland Security and military clients.

Since 1993 Ms. Lanning has provided development management and project management consulting services through her company, Lanning Consulting. Before that she worked for Microsoft® Corporation and held various positions in product development, international marketing, international product development, and worldwide sales training.

Ms. Lanning has an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with concentrations in international business and management of technology, and a B.S. in Computer Science and Economics from the University of California, San Diego.
